Splunk or php-syslog-ng?
We experimented with a central syslog-ng server at work about one year ago. Last week one of our Java programmers (and our friend) Martin reviewed the idea to use a syslog-ng server as central logging unit for log4j. So I decided to search about it on the net this weekend. A year ago we used php-syslog-ng as “gui” web-frontend for searching and such things.
Another colleague pointed me to a interesting project called “Splunk“. It looks like very similar to php-syslog-ng but it seems to have some advanced features. But this project has only a free (free as a beer) licence – no GPL. Hmm, I think I will have a look at it but the licence is a “problem” cause it is not OpenSource.
Well, what would you do? Has anyone any experience with it?
