Hi, I am Mario. I am working in a huge construction site company as an IT senior expert. But what does this mean? My work goes from development and reserach in different technics to support for users (very little…).
At work my collegue Bernhard and I are providing different services based upon Linux. We are building and supporting an OpenVZ based webserver farm. Today (July 09) we have about 90 running VPS server. We have integrated different management soltions like puppet and a lot of perl scripts we coded at our own.
We are also using Linux servers for other purposes. Oracle Database, Samba, FTP, Mail and SMS gateway services, APT-Proxy, IP-Cop, VMWare….. to list some… and of course from time to time we are testing OpenSolaris.
But that’s not all! Beside of the Linux stuff we are using a lot of Microsoft Windows based servers for different projects. Also Oracle, Terminal Server (Citrix and RDP), SyncServer (XTND, Oracle Lite), MS – Sql Server, Workstations, Domains…….
At the moment are more then 300+ Servers (virtual and physical) running at our site.
Hardware based we are using HP-Blade systems – a lot of them. I think we have 8 Blade centres running (half height blades), this are 16 x 8 servers x 4 or 8 cores, and we are still growing.
